Tumblr’s color: how best to describe it?
It is a most inviting dark blue. “Navy” seems too plain and utilitarian. It is darker than cerulean, warmer than royal. It is more mysterious than cobalt, more comfortable than sapphire.
From what I have discerned, its color has undergone some changes over time.

The blue on the far left is a recreation of Tumblr’s color as it existed ten years ago. Six years ago, it likely looked more like the blue in the middle.
To the Tumblr natives who have been witness to these shifts in coloration, the sight of past shades might bring up involuntary emotional reactions—paroxysms of nostalgia, perhaps, or traumatic echoes.
Is there a pheromonal aspect to the blue? Does it emit signals to the inhabitants of Tumblr, stimulating the reblog and posting processes? Or does its serene, infinite field merely provide stability to the constant flow of creation? More research is needed.
